Solar Power Class at Eco Depot, May 23rd

The Eco Depot will be holding their next Solar Electricity class on May 23rd, 2009 from 9am to 12pm.  Students will learn the basics of Solar PV and requirements for starting solar projects.

The class is limited to 20 people and the cost is $35, which includes material and handouts.

Showing of the Film Flow, April 20th

The Faith and Environment Network will be showing the film “Flow: For the Love of Water” about the World Water Crisis on Monday, April, 20 at 6:30pm in the Community Room at Salem Lutheran Church, 1428 W Broadway, Spokane, WA 99201.

“Flow” highlights the problems regarding the world’s dwindling water supply and the far reaching effects that corporate privatization of this resource is having on pollution and human rights.

Kathy Cousin’s from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game will also be speaking about her work with the restoration of the Pack River Delta on Lake Pend Orielle, an area devastated by erosion caused by the Albeni Falls Dam.

Garden Expo Saturday, May 9th, 2009

The Inland Empire Gardeners is hosting the Garden Expo on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 from 9am to 5pm at the Spokane Community College Lair.  This year’s theme is “Gardening Around the World-Floral Domination!”  The Expo is free and the public is welcome to attend and visit over 200 garden-related vendors.

Bike to Work Week Wrap-up Party, May 15th

Registered participants are welcome to RSVP for the wrap-up party for Bike to Work Week.   The afternoon will include snacks and beverages, prizes, short speeches and fun at the Steam Plant Grill from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

Walk and Roll to School Day, May 13th

Bike to Work Week continues with Walk and Roll to School Day, Wednesday, May 13th with participating Spokane Public Schools.  Last year they had 7 elementary schools; this year they have 10 elementary and 2 middle schools. If you’re in another school district or your school isn’t participating, we hope you’ll still encourage your kids to bike to school to help this event grow in future years.

Bike to Work Week Kickoff Breakfast, May 11th

This year’s Bike to Work Week will hold the kickoff breakfast Monday, May 11th at Riverfront Park from 7am to 9am for registered participants only.

The morning will include food, coffee, prizes, short speeches, a big “group photo” at 7:45am, and fun with fellow bike commuters!

Green Drinks at Neato Burrito, April 14th

Spokane Green Drinks events are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month starting at 5:30pm at various locations.  Green Drinks is a monthly, free and informal networking events for “eco-professionals” and anyone interested in conversation, conservation and/or cocktails.

This month’s Green drinks will be Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 at Neato Burrito (827 W 1st Ave).

Bicycle Education Fair, May 10th, 2009

As part of Bike to Work Week, there will be an education fair on Sunday, May 10th, 2009 from 11am to 4pm at Riverpark Square.  Tables will include bike-related information covering rides, clubs, safety and more.

Panel Discussion - “Polluted Waters?” April 14th, 2009

What: Panel Discussion - “Polluted waters? - Tribal perspectives on Lake Coeur d’Alene and the Spokane River”

Who: Phil Cernera, Lake Management Department Director for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and Brian Crossley, Water and Fish Program Manager for the Spokane Tribe will each share their perspectives of the Spokane River and Lake Coeur d’Alene, followed by a moderated Q&A panel discussion.  This discussion is open to the public.

Date & Time: Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 - 9:30 to 10:30am and 10:30 to 11:30am.

Cost: Free

Location: Hagan Foundation Center for the Humanities, Spokane Community College, Building 16, Upstairs in the Library
