Eco Expo 2011

Come and check out Eco Expo 2011, the first annual sustainability conference on the campus of Spokane Community College. The conference will be broken down in to four areas those being lifestyle, transportation, building and community (that would be us!). There will be over 100 environmentally friendly vendors, flowers & produce, as well as a kid’s carnival. Not a bad way to spend the day. Join us on June 11 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the SCC Lair, 1810 N Green Street.

Solar Power Class: Eco Depot, Inc

Learn the basics of Solar Power and what is required to get started.  The cost of the class is $35.00 to include materials and handouts.  All classes are limited to 20 people.

All in all, we are planning for 30 to 50 presenters. The INPC will feature advanced and beginner workshops. Most of our presenters are from the Pacific Northwest but we will reach outside the region for teachers of some advanced classes. A lot of information will be exchanged!

Our policy is inclusive rather than exclusive. We are open to presentations on the many topics related to permaculture. People working in related fields are invited to give one, or more, workshops, presentations, hands-on activities, or demonstrations and to participate in round tables. HOOT (Hawk & Owl Outreach Talks) shows introduce participants to the incredible world of raptors. You’ll get to meet two live raptors and learn about them from WVOLC’s trained educator. This program is designed to increase awareness about wildlife as well as enhance learning about ecosystems, food webs and adaptations. Bring your whole family for this kid-friendly presentation. Tickets for an REI raffle will be sold for $1 each, benefitting the efforts of the West Valley Outdoor Learning Center in our community.

Third annual event. The “greening” of different industries will force many industries to adapt and diversify. Get an update on the Green Economy from a panel that will discuss clean technology, sustainability, clean energy, challenges and opportunities for clean technology and more. Speakers will include Washington State Sen. Join the Inland Northwest Trails Coalition and REI at the Fish Lake Trail to celebrate National Trails Day! Come to the trailhead to pick up your 2011 Kids Adventure Journal and clean up the trail for summer recreators. Bring your family, your bikes, your leashed pets, some work gloves, large push brooms and water bottles and be prepared for fun! Once the trail is free of trash and pine needles, you’ll have an opportunity to hike or bike some of the most beautiful and scenic paved trail in Eastern Washington! This is a great chance to be part of a national initiative for good stewardship of our country’s trails, another great time to get dirty for the outdoors.

This two-day course is an in-depth experiential introduction to Transition for those considering bringing Transition to their community.  It is recommended for local communities wishing to become an internationally-recognized Transition Initiative.

At the Training for Transition course, you will:

  • Explore how the Transition process increases community resilience
  • Receive tools for community outreach, education and engagement
  • Learn how to summarize the Triple Challenge of Peak Oil, Climate, and Economic Instability in ways that move people to positive action
  • Understand and know how to work with obstacles that have prevented our communities from recognizing and positively responding to the challenge of energy transition
  • Experience ways that local social and economic community can be created and strengthened
  • Learn ways of creating a positive, shared vision for your community’s future
  • Receive support for becoming a Transition catalyst in your community
  • Connect with others who are helping your region transition to greater stability and security
  • Become a part of a rapidly growing positive, inspirational, global movement!

Curriculum:
The course describes how to catalyze, build and facilitate a successful Transition Initiative. It is packed with imaginative and inspiring ways to engage your community, and delves into both the theory and practice of Transition that has worked so well in hundreds of communities in the U.K. and around the world.

Who should attend:
People interested in learning about Transition Towns in greater depth and leaders already creating a Transition Initiative in their community
